St Margaret's CE Primary School

Year 1

We had a wonderful space themed morning today! First we made our moon buggies! Then we had a virtual visit from the Space Centre in Leicester where we learnt all sorts of weird and wonderful facts about life as an astronaut!

As part of our learning this week we have been continuing to learn about volume and capacity. We worked with a partner to solve problems such as A is half full and C holds more than A and B. The children then had to pour the correct amount of water into each cup. We had lots of fun! We also looked at birds eye views of the continents from space and used atlases to work out which continent they were!

On Tuesday 23rd March we had a day of reflection to mark a year since lockdown. We made a suncatcher using different shades of yellow paper. We then wrote on our suncatchers the names of our friends and family we love, miss and care about.

For Comic Relief on Friday 19th March we dressed up as superheroes! We had a wonderful day!

Year 1 have been on a counting mission today! We have been learning about the Census and taking part in a range of counting, estimating and recording data activities!

We have had a super week doing lots of activities around the story of ' Alien Tea on Planet Zum Zee'. We celebrated this afternoon by having alien games and our own alien tea!

Welcome back Year 1! We have had a lovely morning back together! We had a super catch up with our friends and have made lovely pots of hope!

Year 1 had a super Christmas party day and even had a special visitor!!!

Year 1 loved having Christmas Jumper and Pyjama day!

Year 1 have had a great time designing and making animal masks!

We have been learning how to program a Bee Bot in Computing and have created our own Bee Bot mats, as well as a video to explain how to use them! We have had lots of fun!

Year 1 had a wonderful time exploring Interfaith Week last week. We had lots of children sharing their own faith and beliefs with the class and it was lovely to learn from each other! We each created an image on a hand to either represent our faith or show what we are like as a person. We hope you like it!

Year 1 have been creating some lovely home learning projects! Our classroom is looking animaltastic!!

On Monday morning, Year 1 were lucky to have a virtual visit from Laura who works for the Animal Man. We met lots of new animals and have been recalling facts about them! Have a look at some of the animals we met!

We had a lovely morning with Mrs Rimmer doing a Godly Play all about Noah's Ark! Have a look at some of the activities we did!

This morning we did a Science investigation to help the ice trolls! We had to find out which material would keep them cool when they visited us! We used foil, newspaper and plastic and soon discovered foil was the best material!

Mrs Athwal had a lot of fun with Miss Barter's bubble designing and making superhero masks and giving themselves superhero names!

Our topic in R.E is 'Why do Christians Trust God?' Today, we listened to the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den. We used our wonderful acting skills to re-tell the story.

We designed and made a Victorian room in Design Technology last week. We made a living room, bathroom or kitchen. Have a look at our finished pieces!

We have been learning about different types of weather in Science. We made our own clouds and today we made and flew our own kites!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! This week we learnt about Victorian seaside holidays. We paddled, we sent postcards home, we made a Punch and Judy Theatre and more!

Mrs Rimmer has been making lava lamps with the children as part of their Science this week. We were all amazed by what we saw!

Mrs Chaplin's Year 1 bubble have also been enjoying a super Victorian school day, they have been doing handwriting, morning drills, sewing and technical drawing!

Year 1 have been enjoying a Victorian school day! We have been learning our times tables, doing handwriting, having morning drills and playing Victorian games outside!

We have been moving and shaking to some Groovy Little Movers sessions online with Katy!

Year 1 have been busy transforming the outdoor area.......

This week Year 1 have been doing lots of learning, including visiting a museum of Victorian artefacts, counting in 2's, 5's and 10's and making a tree of trust in RE! Have a look at what we've been up to!

Today we have been growing our own rainbows which was lots of fun!
